President

Mike Johnson

Prior to moving to the Pacific Northwest in 1985, Mike worked with his dad building spec and custom homes in a small town in northern Montana. Upon moving to Washington, he accepted a position at the Applied Physics Lab at the University of Washington. After one short year, he realized he needed to work outside and get back to my roots in the construction industry, so he took a job with a construction company that worked primarily on Multi-Family buildings. He got to know the Association Managers and the processes of working with Board of Directors. Within a few short months he became the company’s manager, but quickly realized he needed/wanted more. He convinced his step brother, Ed Ruff, to move to Seattle and start a business with him. In February of 1987, Ruff Construction was founded. Shortly after getting the business up and running, Ed moved back home and Mike took over the business entirely with a focus on building long term relationships with Association Managers, Property Managers, Board of Directors and Consulting Firms.

General Manager

Marcus Parks

Marcus is a key player in the success of our business. He joined the Ruff Construction team in 2012 working in the field. In August 2014, Marcus took over the Estimation and Project Management of our Interior Renovation division. His role quickly included Estimating and Managing Exterior projects as well. Marcus has been in the construction field since he was 15, working for his dad who is a General Contractor in Residential Construction. This gained him hands-on experience in both Interior and Exterior Construction. Marcus’ dedication and passion for construction paired with great customer service is evident and has led him to the General Manager position of Ruff Construction.

Marcus and his wife are transitioning into parenthood and all the things that come along with it, keeping them very busy. They often are found entertaining family and friends. When they have the chance to get away, you can usually find them in Chelan wine tasting or golfing.

Operations Manager

Dawn Fraser

Ruff Construction welcomed Dawn to their team in January 2013 as Project Coordinator. Dawn now holds the role of Operations Manager helping oversee company operations. Dawn is the primary point of contact between Association Managers and Ruff Construction. Dawn plays a key role in the coordination of each of our projects. Her position is crucial to the entire team. Our customers rely on her to communicate with them throughout the duration of each project most importantly, communicate with the community residents. In addition, Dawn handles Human Resources and a fair amount of the day to day accounting responsibilities. Dawn comes to Ruff Construction with experience in Commercial Property Management as well as Commercial Lending and a strong background in Customer Service.

Dawn loves the outdoors and being in nature. She often goes camping at least 8 times per year. When she’s not out in the woods, you can often find her entertaining friends at home, or off on a weekend get-away exploring a new local town.

Superintendent

Nick Castaneda

Nick joined Ruff Construction in 2011 and was promoted to Exterior Project Manager/Superintendent in early fall 2013. In his role, he is responsible for overseeing the majority of our large exterior jobs. Nick’s involvement in each of these projects is extremely instrumental in their success. His efforts ensure that each of these projects run smoothly, stay within budget and are completed within the time allotted for each project.

Nick has been in the construction field for over 12+ years, consistently eager to learn more and grow within the field. Nick‘s experience working directly with consultants, designers, architects and engineers has been very beneficial to his role and advancement within the company. His previous experience involves everything from landscaping to custom work, small and large scale projects as well high-end home remodels.

Nick loves a good road trip and spending time outdoors. Nick and his wife, their two girls and their German Shepherd, have made some great memories while on the road with their RV in tow. Recent trips include the Grand Canyon, Disney Land and the Redwood Forest.

Foreman

Luis Resendiz

Luis has been with Ruff Construction since early 2014. Luis came to Ruff with several years of interior construction experience primarily doing drywall, texture and painting. Luis started doing interior with Ruff but was determined to expand his knowledge and experience with exterior construction as well. He manages his projects very well and really takes the bull by its horns when it comes to running a project and does so with little direction. His ability to confidently work with homeowners, consultants and sub-contractors is a great attribute. Luis always has a positive attitude and an eagerness to learn all that he can. He strives to go above and beyond with every project he performs.

Luis is the kind of guy who would give you the shirt off his back without thinking twice and has the most infectious smile. He spends a lot of his free time entertaining family and friends with his girlfriend. He also enjoys hiking and camping during the summer with his two dogs in tow.

Foreman

Mike Folmsbee

Mikey had his first experience in construction while still in high school. He received honors in carpentry after he and his classmates built a house which was later sold by the school district. Following school, Mikey worked in the medical/nursing field for several years before going back to his love of construction. He worked as a framer for roughly eight years before starting with Ruff Construction in the fall of 2012. Like Oscar, Mikey was hired to work on the New Holly project in Seattle but moved into a Lead role shortly thereafter.

When Mikey’s not at work, you can likely find him in his backyard garden. He began growing vegetables on a whim and has found himself now with such an abundance of vegetables he’s giving them away.

Foreman

Wesley Haney

Wes started at Ruff Construction back in 2009 and is currently the longest term employee on staff. During his tenure he has ran over one hundred projects, both large and small, from commencement to completion. Wes’ demeanor along with his finish carpentry skills allow him the knowledge to successfully oversee any project he is assigned to. He holds high standards in his crew members and the projects in whole, ensuring that the project is completed to the customer’s satisfaction and on schedule. We have received several requests from return customers to have Wes run their projects. We are pleased have Wes on our team.

When Wes isn’t at work or chasing his toddler around the back yard with his wife and their dog Jaxon, you can likely find him rocking out at a local music festival or concert.

Special Projects Manager

Shane Azbill

Shane has been with Ruff Construction since 2012. Shane began working in the construction industry over 30 years ago and therefore has a wealth of experience and knowledge in both exterior and interior renovations, though interior renovations are his specialty. His skills also include plumbing, electrical and automotive. Shane oversees many of our unique and special projects, many directly for homeowners, and has built a rapport with many of the Association Managers and Building Consultants we work with. Shane is often the guy who comes in at the end of a project to ensure even the smallest details are completed. In addition to his role in the field, Shane is also our shop steward and maintains our fleet of vehicles in the field. Shane is a huge asset to the RCI team.

Shane, aka Mr. Fix-it, can always be found tinkering with something. He loves a good challenge and rarely turns down the opportunity to take one on. When he’s not tinkering with a project, he likes spending time outdoors and staying active. He’s also quite the animal lover and has adopted several neighborhood cats.
